If you’re interested in getting “into” coffee, here is a list of the basics:
Fresh, whole bean coffee.
A quality burr grinder.
A Kettle (Hario’s are great).
A small scale (measuring in grams rather than tablespoons and ounces ensures consistency and good water to coffee ratio - don’t worry, you can find these for about $10).
A brewing method: ditch your electric coffee pot and go with something hand made. Pourover, Chemex, and French Presses are great places to start. To someone who doesn’t care about the quality of their coffee, this all seems a bit intense. But once you start brewing single cup, grinding your own beans, and using proper ratios, you’ll never go back.
Make the effort- you’ll appreciate your coffee and get way more involved in the process and origin of the coffee itself. Plus, you’ll impress people along the way.
